Sufjan Stevens’ Songs for Christmas
If you like interesting renditions of classic Christmas hymns and fun Christmas melodies, you will love Sufjan (pronounced ‘Sue-faan’) Stevens’ Songs for Christmas. You can listen to sample tracks here.
I also highly recommend “Ordinary Time” ( http://ordinarytimemusic.com ). They’re three Southerns who met at Regent and discovered each others Old Time Folk talent.
Suef-yaan is a more accurate pronunciation. You need that y sound in there.
Nick, my 18-year-old son loves Sufjan. He’s got several of his albums, from iTunes. Sometimes we play them in the car — they are always very interesting songs and arrangements. The tracks are so highly produced — I wonder how may instruments are ‘loops’ and how many are real humans playing. My son says that Sufjan plays all the instruments, but I have my doubts.
Nick, you can listen to the entire collection of Songs for Christmas at xmas.asthmatickitty.com
There is also a smorgasbord of other materials on the site by Sufjan’s record label. Lastly, I think Sufjan’s name is pronounced more like this: SOO-fee-yawn. It’s said quickly though.
Merry Christmas!
