Poythress on the Role of the Presence of God in Exegesis
Here is one of the best articles I have come across on the importance of having our grammatical-historical interpretation method guided by the theological significance of the text. Poythress’ argument is the foundation for my work on the Song of Songs. Every serious student of Scripture should read this article. In order to better understand the process of departure from the methodology of the Reformation as proposed by Poythress, I would recommend Gerhard Ebeling’s “The Significance of the Critical Historical Method for Church and Theology.” In Word and Faith Philadelphia: Fortress, 1963.
Do you know if D.A. Carson has interacted with what Poythress says here?
Wow, Nick, thanks! What a good article.
